This Gessler Government

Remember William Tell. This story from my childhood. And the tyrant Gessler.

Newt says this ObamaCare bill is the equivalent of selling the farm and leaving the kids with the mortgage.

Recognize the overture?

Hi ho Silver!

What will be the next rallying cry?

This Liberal Fascism Will Not Stand

Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Death to America.

Yet another corrupt Chicago story.

What Politics Looks Like in a Union-Run World That Has Run Out of Money

What is to be undone? Scott, Powerline:
Take, for example, Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin of South Dakota. The good people of South Dakota must understand that her vote against Obamacare is meaningless so long as she contributes to the Democrats' will to power in Washington. She should be defeated in favor of a Republican candidate who will help constitute a partisan majority for the undoing of Obamacare.
Why wait to repeal it?

P.S. Protest at Pomeroy’s Fargo Office This Afternoon
Great flood notwithstanding.

Rocks and Crocuses

Am feeling grouchy today, so that's the title. Snow back again tomorrow.

The Bolshie Chicago Mob in the White House

The Founders would blanch. It's the elite vanguard, Lenin with a Capone flair. Barack Obama is the bland face, but most Americans have seen the mask slip now. Brass knuckles personified by thousands of IRS agents empowered to force you to pay up for a bill you did not choose. Crippling debt visited on us and our children and our children's children, smashing our American Dreams. The fall guys in Congress, grabbing pork with pudgy fingers as they go down. The latest Big Lie barely passed David Axelrod's slimy lips before it became Big Julie clear:

DAVID AXELROD: “The President Does Believe That State-Only Carve-Outs Should Not Be In The Bill.” (“White House Seems to Have New Policy On ‘Special Deals’ in Health Care Reform Bill,” ABC News, 3/15/10)

BISMARCK BANK JOB

“The Health Care Budget Reconciliation Bill Appears To Have A Special Carve-Out For One Of Its Most Ardent Critics — Senate Budget Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.). Though The Measure Would Broadly Eliminate Government Subsidies To Banks That Offer Student Loans, The Bank Of North Dakota Will Continue To Receive Federal Assistance For Its Student Loan Program.”
(“Conrad Appears To Get Special Carve-Out In Reconciliation Bill,” Roll Call, 3/18/10)

ROCKY TOP VOTE SWAP

Full Medicaid Disproportionate Share Payment (DSH) For Tennessee.(“Amendment In The Nature Of A Substitute To H.R. 4872,” 3/18/2010, P. 67)
“EXTENSION OF DSH ALLOTMENT.—Section 1923(f)(6)(A) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1396r-4(f)(6)(A)) is amended by adding at the end the following: ‘‘(v) ALLOTMENT FOR 2D, 3RD, AND 4TH QUARTERS OF FISCAL YEAR 2012 AND FOR FISCAL YEAR 2013.—Notwithstanding the table set forth in paragraph (2): ‘‘(I) 2D, 3RD, AND 4TH QUARTERS OF FISCAL YEAR 2012.—In the case of a State that has a DSH allotment of $0 for the 2d, 3rd, and 4th quarters of fiscal year 2012, the DSH allotment shall be $47,200,000 for such quarters. ‘‘(II) FISCAL YEAR 2013.—In the case of a State that has a DSH allotment of $0 for fiscal year 2013, the DSH allotment shall be $53,100,000 for such fiscal year.’’”

LOUISIANA PURCHASE

“Obama’s New Health Care Proposal Keeps Louisiana Medicaid Provision.”
(“Obama’s New Health Care Proposal Keeps Louisiana Medicaid Provision,” New Orleans Times-Picayune, 2/22/10)

“Obama's Plan Is Silent On Two Other High-Profile Legislative Deals In The Senate Bill. The First Provision Sends $300 Million In Additional Medicaid Funding To Louisiana And Was Widely Viewed As A Sweetener To Win Moderate Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's Vote Last Fall.”(“Deals Remain In Obama’s Plan,” Politico, 2/22/10)

“…There Are Controversial Special Provisions Of The Senate Health Reform Bill That President Obama Leaves Untouched. First Up, The ‘Louisiana Purchase.’ … [Sen. Mary] Landrieu Said In A Speech On The Senate Floor Feb. 4th That Critics Should ‘Shut Their Mouth.’” (“White House Cuts Special Help For Nebraska, But Other Deals Remain In Reform Bill,” ABC News, 2/22/10)
“And Reid Already Has Established A Dangerous Precedent, By Dangling $300 Million In Medicaid Funding For Louisiana To Win Landrieu's Support For Bringing The Bill To The Senate Floor. Months Earlier, Reid Had Carved Out His Own Medicaid Exemption For Nevada. One addition he made to the Senate bill, an increase in the Medicare payroll tax for high earners, has raised concerns with Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (Maine). Snowe, the only Republican who has been at least somewhat supportive of Democratic reform efforts, cited its potential to harm small businesses.” (“Reid's Recipe For Getting Health-Care Deal Done,” The Washington Post, 12/4/09)

U-CON

“There Is Also Not Specific Mention In The President’s List Of Fix-It, Of A Special Proposal Aimed At A Connecticut Research Hospital, But Open To Other Hospitals... So Those Provisions Apparently Still Remain.”(“White House Cuts Special Help For Nebraska, But Other Deals Remain In Reform Bill,” ABC News, 2/22/10)

Such facility shall be affiliated with an academic health center at a public research university in the United States that contains a State’s sole public academic medical and dental school.” (Manager’s Amendment To H.R. 3590, Pg. 328)

“Another Provision The President Has Asked Reid To Consider Removing Was Promoted By Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) On Behalf Of Residents Of Libby, Mont.” (“Obama Presses Reid To Cut Special Deals From Health Bill,” Politico, 3/11/10)

The Founders would fight like hell. As should we. Call your congressmen, Halvorson, Bean, Foster, Rush? If you can't get through to DC, call the local offices, call your state legislators.

President Obama and the Democrat leaders in Congress are shredding the Constitution and assaulting our liberty. We are not going away, no matter what. We the people love our life, liberty and our pursuit of happiness. We love this country--and we won't stand by to see it trashed and tossed on the ash heap of history.

Democrats--You are trashing DEMOCRACY

Paul Ryan: This entire process has been a disgrace

“You can’t pass this health-care bill the right way, so now you pass it the Washington way.” Video: You are trashing America. You are killing our Liberty.

But maybe that's what you want.

You are killing the liberty of our children. And yours.

Don't do this.

We can do better. We all care. But this is not the way.

It won't work.

And it will wreck our health care system, our economy, our country. And condemn our children to a grim future. One without dreams, just drudgery.

Earl Pomeroy Avoiding The One

Politico. The president is not a hot political property.

Let us recall:
Pomeroy has the distinction of having voted against the first bill in committee and then for it on the House floor. If there’s any sign of a conflicted member, that’s it. On top of all that, Pomeroy faces what looks like his first tough reelection since the early 2000s, as state Rep. Rick Berg and state Insurance Commissioner Kevin Cramer have both launched campaigns.
Earl?

Let's Get Biblical!

Michael Moore Warns Democrats 'In for an Ass-Whooping of Biblical Proportions in November' Newsbusters:

He mocked the Democratic Party, whose convention he was once a guest at, for acting like "frightened animals."

"You know, they used to at least just sing ‘Kumbaya,'" Moore said. "Now they go in like frightened animals. I don't understand it. What is it about them that they can't do the math?"

(Emphasis mine.) Um. Michael. Didn't you know?

Best build an ark for you and your Dem friends. Two by two.

Teach a Man to Fish No More

And so it comes to pass. The Coffee Shop Blog:
Culled out - Obama administration will accept no more public input for federal fishery strategy

The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.
Is our President Barack Obama going to hold a sermon on the mount? Loaves and fishes, no problem. Walking on water next. Fishing? We don't need no stinkin' fishin'!

No Stimulus Here

Sticking it to small business again. Jobs, who needs jobs?

Dems kill thousands of Colo. Internet businesses

Health care legislation may include new provision for part-time workers

But what are we really talking about--does the bill exist? Heritage.

And what numbers are we talking about? (Obama Inflates Estimated Health Care Savings by $868B)

Stimulus or Sedative? - Thomas Sowell, Investor's Business Daily

Exploring The Obama Jobs Deficit, IBD:

A huge share of the unemployed has been out of work for more than a year. Minorities have been hit hardest, with the jobless rate for young black men climbing to a record high.

What's the deal? No entrepreneurial incentives — namely, across-the-board cuts in marginal tax rates, which fueled hiring in last decade's recovery as well as the one in the 1980s. Worse, President Obama plans to raise taxes on the entrepreneurial class.

Studies show cuts in individual tax rates encourage new business startups, the catalyst for job creation. And there's nothing now to incentivize existing small businesses to create jobs.

More. HotAir on the switch in the bill to penalize businesses for part-time workers.

No stimulus here.

P.S. U.S. Chamber of Commerce rolling up its sleeves. Challenging Obama's OFA. Heh:) And this tidbit:
The chamber's expanding influence is worrisome to top officials in the White House -- including Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who has expressed concern about the chamber in the past, and senior advisor Valerie Jarrett, who tried to build direct contacts with company executives last fall when the chamber was fighting the administration's legislation to regulate carbon emissions.
Will Rahmbo hide under his desk or hit the House showers?

More. Ruby Slippers with Rasmussen today--majority of voters believe ObamaCare will hurt the economy.

St. Louis Ground Zero: Tea Party vs. Coffee Party Astroturf

24th State with the further expose of the group in action headed by a former NY Times strategy analyst turned Obama campaign organizer (grassroots my). In part:

The coffee party is a fraud. It's purpose is very clear - give those in the media the ability to run counter-stories to successful Tea Party gatherings, effectively cutting Tea Party media exposure in half.

The founder is OFA staff, and has been a part of left wing organizers for years. The Facebook group is a top-down managed group that opens chapters in cities, identifies organizers, and broadcasts talking points. From this, the Twitter #p2 crowd jumps in, yapping about civility and the need for intelligent discourse.

The first point is the obvious one. Those who accuse the Tea Party of a lack of civility are a day late and a dollar short. The manufactured media meme of Townhall rage didn't happen until the summer, and even then, it was the orders from Margarida Jorge on how to structure fake rallies that got people riled up. Lock hundreds of people out of townhalls while you let union members in handicap entrances and you're not really setting yourself up for civil speech. Throw in violence and physical intimidation, and you'll get that the Tea Party members had every right to get angry.

Yes, that was the SEIU part, when they beat up Kenneth Gladney, a vendor of Gadsden flags. Read on for the next phase of these phony groups but real thugs. And then there's the media fraud. (How come they only interview one guy? Mr. antithesis) What a surprise.

P.S. Let's recall what CNN didn't show at the Chicago Tax Day Tea Party last year. Gee, why would anyone be upset about this?

And according to the media we're the ignorant ones. Another refresher:

Final footnote, a refrain:
I love this comment on the CNN embarrassment:

How should those of us who attend Tea Parties respond to "reporting" like CNN's Susan Roesgen?

Susan Roesgen to Citizen: Don't you realize that you're eligible for a $400 tax cut!?!?

Citizen: OK, let me illustrate how I feel about that. Say I'm a Politician. Susan, I'm going to GIVE you a $400 gift! Aren't I wonderful? All I need from you is to borrow your credit card...[hold out hand for card]

CNN: You want to use MY credit card to buy ME a gift?

Citizen: Along with a few other things; just $6000 or so. I'm a politician; I have NEEDS --- EXPENSIVE needs.

CNN: $6000!?!

Citizen: This year's budget will borrow $1.85 TRILLION -- that's over $6000 for every man, woman & child in America. But we're getting a $400 "tax cut". You seem to think that's a great deal.
And that's just this year's budget. As ol James Traficant used to say on the House floor, beam me up Scotty.

Rebellion is Brewing

Via the Coralville, Iowa Courier: Obama's spending is bankrupting this country

Meanwhile, across the country in the Old Dominion, one of the original 13 colonies: Virginia first state to nullify federal health insurance mandate. It was a truly bipartisan effort. And this:
A constitutional amendment passed earlier in Arizona, but has yet to be approved by voters. It will be on the ballot in November.

Legislators in more than 30 other states are also considering similar bills based on the American Legislative Exchange Council’s Freedom of Choice in Health Care model.
The states will not be silenced.

Wilting Windmills

Those damaged Minnesota wind turbines made in milder-weather California are up and running again but generate more PR light than energy heat shall we say. Big Government:
“One fifth of the arable land would have to be taken up by wind turbines to meet the mandate,” Dan Voss said. “It’s just not a good policy and it’s not sustainable and unfortunately, there’s no interest in it until the lights go out.”
Well, yeah and the current ones are heavily subsidized by the Obama administration's foolish green policies, which not only don't provide reliable power, but crowd out real private sector jobs. And now we find out some of this green stimulus money is going overseas. (Maybe you johnny come lately Dems could have read the bill, hmm) Stop the quixotic tilting at windmills. (We're talking to you, Lindsey Graham)

Coffee Party Accepts Invitation to Tea

We shall see if the Coffee Party is sincere. I am not at all convinced, given what we know about them, but this might be interesting. True North, the Twin Cities blog has extended an invitation to meet in good faith, which has apparently been accepted by Annabel Park.

You all may recall St. Paul was the site of the Republican convention a few summers ago. There were more than a few violent protesters from the left.

Civility over a cup of tea would be a refreshing change.

Purple (State) With Rage

The Pessimistic Purple: Why Are Voters in Swing States the Most Discontented? Smart Politics.

Interesting. We've got a Forbes piece-- Blue States Spill the Most Red Ink, that I've enlarged on, now this purple phenomenon. I'm not much of a stats person but given I've lived in a Blue State for some time I think I can say with some authority--most blue staters benefit from the Big Government leviathan--until they don't.

So they are kind of a lagging indicator, you might say they are clueless Blue on the big picture. There are of course some red Cassandras in the mix.

As for Red staters, the Forbes story illustrates they are among the most financially secure. That might have something to do with their value system and politics, not to mention their fundamental understanding that big government is not what makes this country work.

I concur with Smart Politics on this--the swing Purple Staters are disappointed in The One. They propelled him to victory, they may deliver the Dems a defeat this fall.

They thought he was a moderate purple kind of guy. They were wrong. But in all fairness, Barack Obama lied to them.
